Quantitative Research Skills: Data Analysis and Statistical Techniques (Thursday Group) Online

This workshop programnme, delivered through Microsoft Teams, is perfect for students at all levels of study who are (or are about to) undertaking a quantitative research project in the university. Whether you're completely new to statistics or looking to deepen your understanding, this hands-on online workshop series will help you confidently analyse your research data.

These workshops guide researchers through developing a methodology and hypotheses, generating descriptive statistics, conducting hypothesis testing, and checking assumptions. You'll also learn how to perform a variety of statistical analyses using SPSS, with skills that can easily be applied to other tools like JASP and STATA. Additionally, we provide guidance on writing your results in APA format and incorporating effective tables and charts into your research project.

No prior knowledge of quantitative statistics or SPSS is required. My goal is to make statistics logical, simple, and accessible for all researchers at BU, regardless of your previous experience. After each session, you'll have access to comprehensive class notes, sample data, and PowerPoint presentations to support your learning. Plus, you're welcome to book a one-on-one consultation with me to discuss the specifics of your own research.

The sessions will commence on Thursday 9th October, from 10 am to 12 pm, and will recur every Thursday for 10 weeks through this semester (You do not have to attend all sessions).

This semester's Quantitative Analysis & Statistics program includes the following topics:

1 Introduction to Statistical Analysis (Thursday 9th October 10am)

2 Managing and Manipulating data in SPSS - preparing for analysis (Thursday 16th October 10am)

3 Introduction to Null Hypothesis Significance testing and P values (Thursday 23rd October 10am)

4 Introduction to T test analysis (Thursday 30th October 10am)

5 Introduction to ANOVA analysis (Thursday 6th November 10am)

6 Introduction to Correlation and Regression analysis (Thursday 13th November)

7 Nonparametric Testing part A (Thursday 20th November)

8 Nonparametric Testing part B (Thursday 27th November)

9 Factor Analysis (Thursday 4th December 10am)

10 Discriminant Function Analysis (Thursday 11th December 10am)
