Essential Maths Workshop

Matrices: Core Skills & Techniques

Delivered live via Microsoft Teams, this dedicated workshop is ideal for BU students working on matrix-related mock exams, coursework, or research projects. In this interactive two-hour session, you will refresh and develop your knowledge of matrix operations and applications. The workshop will guide you through essential topics such as types of matrices, addition and multiplication, determinants, inverses, solving systems of equations, and matrix transformations, giving you the tools to approach linear algebra problems with confidence.

This workshop will aim to cover the following areas of Matrices:
1 Introduction to Matrices and Notation
2 Types of Matrices
3 Addition, Subtraction and Scalar Multiplication
4 Matrix Multiplication
5 Determinants of 2×2 and 3×3 Matrices
6 Inverse of a Matrix
7 Solving Simultaneous Equations using Matrices
8 Matrix Transformations
9 Applications of Matrices in Problem Solving
