Essential Maths Workshop

Graph Sketching: Core Skills & Techniques

Delivered live via Microsoft Teams, this focused workshop is perfect for any BU student preparing for graph-based mock exams, coursework or research projects. Whether you need a rapid refresher or want to deepen your understanding, our interactive two-hour session will boost your confidence and fluency in sketching, interpreting and analysing mathematical graphs.

This workshop will aim to cover the following areas of Graph Sketching:

  1. Straight line graphs – finding intercepts, gradients and equations.

  2. Parallel and perpendicular lines.

  3. Quadratic graphs (parabolas): plotting, symmetry, vertex and transformations.

  4. Cubic graphs – key features and shape recognition.

  5. Rational functions – sketching reciprocal graphs and their variations.

  6. Exponential and logarithmic functions – growth, decay, and reflections.

Expect practical demonstrations, plotting by table of values, and problem-solving examples to strengthen both manual and conceptual understanding.

Why join?

  • Practical & interactive – live worked examples.

  • All materials provided – full notes, extra exercises and annotated PowerPoint (PDF) slides after the session.

  • Tailored support – book a 1-to-1 follow-up with me to tackle your personal graphing questions.
